“Can you see me now?” on Roads & Bridges Magazine

Researchers Anburaj Muthumani and Laura Fay recently wrote an article for Roads & Bridges magazine related to their research into lighting for snowplows for optimal safety. The article is entitled “Can you see me now?” and explores options for lighting snowplows in order to best serve the plow operator and alert motorists to the plow’s presence and speed. Maintenance vehicles such as plows generally move at much slower speeds that other vehicles, and can be involved in accidents as a result. In order to make the plow as visible as possible, it’s important to do more than just put lights on it. Vehicle lights should be in certain locations, wind deflectors should be used, heated lenses can prevent frost buildup should be used, etc. The article summarizes research that was conducted to optimize safety and create a “Best Practices” guide for lighting snowplows.
