ATTAP and CESTiCC collaborate to hold Summer Transportation Institute
For the second year in a row, CESTiCC and the Alaska Tribal Technical Assistance Program (ATTAP) have teamed up to hold a Summer Transportation Institute (STI) from June 6-9 at the UAF Interior Aleutians Campus. The STI is an annual training workshop focused on rural transportation. This year’s institute was focused on gravel roads. The workshop featured classes, lab tours, lectures, and site visits focused on transportation infrastructure.
CESTiCC research coordinator Sheng Zhao welcomed participants in the opening events and provided a tour of UAF’s labs and facilities. Researchers Chuang Lin and Lin Li each provided classes on gradation and soil classification. Researcher Bob McHattie provided sessions on gravel road design and maintenance.
The event was very successful and attendees left with new knowledge and tools to tackle transportation issues in their home communities. CESTiCC is excited to continue working with ATTAP to produce more STIs in the future.
