Engineering Open House

The Engineering Open House is an annual event to increase public awareness and appreciation of engineers and their work hosted by College of Engineering and Mines, University of Alaska Fairbanks. CESTiCC sponsored a fun, interactive activity for kids called the "RC Road Rally". Learning the fundamentals of geometric and road design through a hands-on activity, kids raced remote control cars around tracks on simulated different foundations. This simple concept underlies a broad range of research in the areas of permafrost, soil stability, slope stabilization, soil liquefaction, and other topics involving sub-surface thermal and soil dynamics. A demonstration of work on cold regions transportation during the activity can be found in this presentation.Road Rally
