Successful Symposium

Nearly 100 people gathered in Fairbanks, Alaska last week to attend the International Symposium on Systematic Approaches to Environmental Sustainability in Transportation. The week was filled with workshops, keynote speeches, lectern sessions, a poster session and exciting excursions to see the Permafrost Tunnel Research Facility and geothermal renewable energy at Chena Hot Springs. The symposium banquet, held at Alaskan Salmon Bake, gave attendees the chance to experience a quintessential Alaskan meal. After the symposium, attendees were even able to take a tour to the Artic Circle and visit the Beaver Slide field site. We are so grateful to all of our sponsors and the many people who helped make this symposium happen. And thank you to our attendees for traveling many miles to attend the conference!

37 peer-reviewed papers on innovations and advances in sustainable pavement materials and 22 peer-reviewed papers on recent advances to maximize environmental sustainability in transportation were selected and published in ASCE. Visit our Publication's page to download the two E-books. Stay tuned, the symposium photos will be posted on the website very soon!
