Abstract

Anthony Mizumori will present first and will discuss how WSDOT constructs bridge decks for durability, including the use of performance specifications for bridge deck concrete. The second half of the presentation will be made by DeWayne Wilson and will cover how WSDOT rehabilitates existing concrete bridge decks to extend the life of its bridges.

Speaker Bio(s)

Anthony Mizumori is a Bridge Engineer with the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). He is the concrete structure design specialist for the department, which includes maintaining the WSDOT Bridge Design Manual and design standards for concrete bridges. His duties include bridge and structure design, design project management, and industry outreach.  He has been an employee of WSDOT for 15 years. His design experience includes long-span prestressed concrete girders, post-tensioned concrete, steel girders, steel trusses and bridge rehabilitation.  He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, and is a licensed structural engineer in the state of Washington.

 

DeWayne Wilson is the Bridge Asset Management engineer for the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). His primary duties include supervision of the Asset Management Unit, which is tasked with identifying and prioritizing the preservation needs for the 3,265 state-owned bridges. He works with others in the WSDOT Bridge Office to identify initial scopes of work for the bridge preservation projects, including bridge deck rehabilitation and concrete overlays. He has been with WSDOT for 34 years, having done bridge inspections and managing the department’s Bridge Deck Rehabilitation Program. He has been in his current position for 13 years. He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and is a licensed professional engineering in the state of Washington.
