Abstract

Successful winter road maintenance (WRM) operations rely on a number of factors, including the selection and proper execution of effective approaches under prevailing conditions. This webinar will provide a brief overview of recent advances in alternative deicers and additives, followed by a holistic approach to materials evaluation and selection. Then, two case studies of developing "green" liquid deicer or anti-icer will be presented. The talk will conclude with a discussion of the paradigm shift to data-driven and collaborative decision making as well as the remaining gaps in the knowledge base.
