Day 1: SRH-2D
Morning
- Modeling techniques will be presented using the Surface Modeling System (SMS), a graphical pre- and post-processer for SRH-2D.
- Provide participants the knowledge, skills, and practice needed to use SMS to develop, run, and review results of 2D hydraulic models.
- Cover Background Data.
- Scatter data, Areal Image, Boundary Flow Conditions, Material’s information.
- Describe Model Parameters and Mesh Generation.
- Illustrate Simulation Setup and Model Run.
Afternoon
- Computer workshop (Lakina River or Quartz Creek case study).
- Use SMS to setup and run 2D models.
- Generate and review 2D model results.
- Review and discuss specific model issues found by the participants.
Day 2: HEC-RAS 2D
Morning
- Cover features and capabilities of RAS Mapper.
- How to Create a TIN and Raster using ArcGIS RAS Mapper.
- Getting data from GIS to HEC-RAS.
- Demonstrate how to develop a 2D computational mesh and spatially varied manning’s roughness layer.
- Defining external 2D flow area Boundary Conditions.
- Illustrate the setup of unsteady flow analysis.
Afternoon
- Computer workshop (we will use the same case study).
- Use ArcMap and HEC-RAS to setup and run 2D models.
- Generate and review 2D model results.
- Review and discuss specific model issues found by the participants.
- A quick comparison between HEC-RAS and SRH results will be done.
